TG Guest Talk
Field notes

Writing from the Talk with Guest team.

Longer pieces from operators, revenue managers and engineers who spend their days inside independent hotels, hostels and aparthotels across Portugal and Southern Europe. Talkguest publishes here roughly twice a month, and every article is written by someone who has actually run a shift on the topic, not by a marketing agency polishing an outline.

Who writes here

Operators first, engineers second

The blog is not a content-marketing exercise. Everything you read below was drafted by someone on the Talkguest team who works with paying properties on a weekly basis. Sofia Antunes, our head of communications, was a hospitality journalist at Publituris for nine years before joining. She edits every piece, argues about the RevPAR maths with our head of revenue advisory João Silvestre, and refuses to publish anything that reads like it was assembled from a keyword list.

The result is a small archive of thoroughly-argued pieces on topics that matter to independent European hoteliers: how to move a hostel to a single channel manager without losing weekend bookings, what the CNPD actually said about WhatsApp templates after the 2024 clarification, and how to design a rate structure that survives contact with reality. If you are looking for listicles, this is not the archive for you. If you are looking for a shift-lead's opinion on what to do next, keep scrolling.

Revenue, operations, compliance and guest experience. Each piece is ten to fifteen minutes of reading and closes with concrete steps you can take before the next weekly management meeting.

Editorial policy

How we decide what to publish

We publish when a piece is genuinely useful and refuse to publish when it isn't. The internal test is simple: could an operating GM print this article on Monday morning and use it in a Friday management meeting? If the answer is no, the article goes back to the draft folder. This is why the archive is small and why nothing here reads like search-engine wallpaper.

Each article is fact-checked against the Talkguest customer base. If we cite a percentage uplift, that uplift comes from an actual dataset of anonymised property performance, not a marketing survey. If we recommend a workflow, at least two properties are running that workflow today, and the piece links to their case study where possible. Our customer portfolio spans boutique hotels in Chiado, hostels in Ribeira, aparthotels in Cascais and wellness retreats in Madeira — the writing draws from all of them.

We do not publish paid placements, we do not publish guest posts, and we do not accept content trades. If you have a story we should cover — a policy change, a workflow change, a data point from your own operation — write to sofia@talkguest.pt and we will read it carefully. The best pieces in this archive started as an operator writing to us to argue that we had gotten something wrong.

Beyond the blog

If you are looking for shorter, task-oriented material, the Talkguest guides cover common onboarding scenarios in a step-by-step format. The customer stories archive collects longer interviews with hoteliers we work with, and the changelog tracks every meaningful release to the platform. For product-level questions, start with the module overview, and for pricing move directly to the pricing page.

Everything on the blog is also available as an RSS feed at /rss.xml, and every article carries a stable canonical URL that we commit not to break. If you cite a Talkguest article in a management report or an internal wiki, the link will still work in five years. That is a small commitment but it is one we have kept since the archive opened in 2024.

Every article is available in both English and Portuguese. The Portuguese versions are not translations from English; they are separate drafts written by the same author, in the voice each language rewards. If you spot a passage that reads awkwardly in either language, write to us — the editorial team fixes reader-reported issues faster than any other type of correction.

Beyond RSS and the guides, we also mail a short monthly digest of what we have published, what we are reading elsewhere, and the one number we are watching from the aggregate Talkguest customer base. The digest is opt-in, unbranded, and easy to unsubscribe from; roughly nineteen hundred hoteliers, revenue advisors and hospitality journalists across Southern Europe receive it. If you would like to join, drop a note through the contact page and mention "digest".
